Rs 3.8L fake notes seized in Guwahati, 3 held

Guwahati: Assam Police have arrested three people for allegedly printing and circulating counterfeit currency, seizing Rs 3.85 lakh in fake notes.Jalukbari police station officials said the raid followed intelligence inputs.

Police recovered counterfeit notes, all in Rs 500 denominations, along with equipment and materials allegedly used to print them.

Investigators suspect the group had been producing and circulating fake currency for some time across multiple states.“The accused are Mohhamed Jiarul Hoque of Katabari near Garchuk area of the city, Mohhamed Amanas Ali from Barpeta district and Md Rahim Mia from West Bengal’s Cooch Behar district,” said Jalukbari PS OC Amrit Kumar Singh.The operation was carried out under the guidance of DCP (west police district). “The raid was carried out at an apartment in Millenium Garden, which is in the city’s Pragjyotish Nagar sub-locality in the Maligaon area. We are still in search of the mastermind, who is absconding,” the OC added.Singh said he would not disclose the absconding suspect’s identity, citing the ongoing investigation.Police seized three printers, a cutter, 41 ink containers, bundles of paper allegedly used for printing, four vehicles, five mobile phones and a laptop.The accused were produced in a local court after completion of legal formalities. Police registered a case under the provisions of the BNS.
