Rs 7.88cr gold heist in Mumbai’s Borivali, 2 held, minor detained

MUMBAI: Two people have been arrested and a minor has been detained in connection with a theft of 5 kg gold ornaments, valued at Rs 7.88 crore, from a jewellery store in Borivali West.

Police have recovered one kilogram of gold so far and are looking for at least two to three more accused persons. The case had insider involvement with at least two employees vanishing after the crime.Police said the theft is likely to have occurred in the intervening night between Jan 13 and 14 at 'My Gold Point' store located in IC Colony. The staff had been entrusted with keys to the store to lock up after business hours. Two of them emptied jewellery display cases and fled with 5 kgs of gold. MHB Colony Police formed a team and started checking CCTV footage from the vicinity to track their whereabouts.Senior officials said the identities of both the employees are known.Under the supervision of DCP Sandeep Jadhav and senior inspector Harish Gawli, a police team nabbed one of the employees and his accomplice. They also detained a minor who has been sent to the observation home. "We have recovered one kilogram of gold. The other employee is on the run with 4 kg of gold. He had accomplices who organised for transport for him to flee after the incident," said a police official.
