A fresh political debate has emerged over the foreign visit of A. Revanth Reddy to the United States after an RTI reply indicated that the expenses for the trip were to be borne by the state government, while leaders from the ruling Congress claim that the Chief Minister paid the course fee himself.

According to documents provided under the Right to Information Act, 2005, the Government of Telangana General Administration (Political) Department forwarded a copy of G.O. Rt. No. 5 dated January 1, 2026 in response to an RTI application filed by a Hyderabad resident, Karim Ansari.

The Government Order states that the Chief Minister visited the United States from January 25 to January 30, 2026 to attend the “Leadership for the 21st Century Program" at Harvard Kennedy School. The order clearly mentions that “the expenditure shall be borne by the Education Department under the relevant head of account."

However, the RTI reply does not mention any specific amount spent on the Chief Minister’s visit or the course fee in the copy of the Government Order.

Meanwhile, Congress MLC Addanki Dayakar rejected claims that the entire trip was funded by the government. Responding to the controversy, Dayakar said, “that while travel expenses may have been borne by the government, the course fee for the Harvard program was paid by the Chief Minister himself."

The issue gained traction earlier after senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao alleged on the social media platform X that the Chief Minister had studied using public money, triggering political criticism.

Reacting to those allegations, Dayakar countered that the opposition was misrepresenting the facts. He reiterated that the Chief Minister personally paid the program fee and that only the official travel expenses could have been covered by the government as part of the official visit.

With the RTI documents now in the public domain, the controversy has intensified, with opposition leaders demanding clarity from the Telangana government on the exact breakup of expenses, including travel costs and the fee paid for the Harvard program.
