India’s former world champion, Rudrankksh Patil and Paris Olympic finalist Arjun Babuta missed out on medals in the men’s 10m air rifle event, finishing fourth and sixth, at the season-ending ISSF World Cup Final on Saturday, December 6.
Elavenil Valarivan also fell short in the women’s 10m air rifle event, finishing ninth in the qualification round and failing to make the eight-shooter final.
Rudrankksh, the 2022 world champion who clinched the World Cup gold in Buenos Aires earlier this season, entered the star-studded final after finishing fourth in the qualification round with a score of 631.9.
Babuta made it to the eight-shooter final by finishing third with a score of 633. China’s Sheng Lihao, a double Olympic gold medallist at the Paris Olympics, led the field with a score of 637.7, while Sweden’s former world champion Victor Lindgren was second with 633.
In the top-class final, Rudrankksh shot a below-par score of 9.8 in his second shot of the first series, which proved decisive as he tallied 209.9.
Lindgren clinched the gold and a €5,000 prize cheque with a score of 253.0, while Lihao secured the silver (252.6) and €4,000 in prize money. Hungary’s Istvan Peni won the bronze.
Elavenil, fresh from her World Championships bronze medal in Cairo, missed the eight-shooter final after finishing ninth in qualification with a score of 630.
World Championships bronze medallist in trap, Zorawar Sandhu, was placed ninth among 12 shooters after scoring 70/75 on day one of the competition. He shot 23, 24, and 23 in three rounds of 25 each and will return to the range on Sunday for two more rounds before the six finalists are determined.
Sandhu is the sole entrant from India in the shotgun competition.
