Power shoulders emerged as one of the defining silhouette statements on the Autumn/Winter 2026 runways. Across New York, London, Milan and Paris, designers exaggerated the shoulder line to create sharper, more commanding shapes in suits, coats and evening wear.
The look marks a revival of strong, structured silhouettes reminiscent of the power dressing popularised in the 1980s and 1990s.
What are power shoulders
Power shoulders refer to a fashion silhouette in which a garment’s shoulders are deliberately structured, padded or exaggerated to create a broader, more de ned upper body. In contemporary fashion, the look appears in several forms – from sharp, square lines to rounded sculptural shapes and padded tailoring – all designed to add more presence to the silhouette.
Seen across the Big Four runways
Power shoulders appeared across the Autumn/Winter 2026 circuit, beginning at New York Fashion Week with designers like Michael Kors, Christian Siriano and Bibhu Mohapatra. The silhouette continued at London Fashion Week with Paul Costelloe and Burberry, moved through Milan Fashion Week with Bottega Veneta, Ferragamo and Giorgio Armani, and culminated at Paris Fashion Week with Saint Laurent and Mugler presenting sculpted shoulders.
‘Power shoulders are authoritative & unapologetic’
Celebrity fashion stylist Parikshaat Wadhwani says, “Power shoulders create a commanding silhouette – sculpted and dramatic – projecting authority and fearless style.” Celebrity stylist Palak Shah adds, “Power shoulders signify presence over perfection. The broad silhouette commands attention and signals an unapologetic sense of self, celebrating individuality.”
If your jacket doesn’t make you feel like you could run a Fortune 500 company, you’re wearing the wrong shoulders. The girl boss has arrived, taking up an extra three inches on each side
