IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, along with former Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu and former Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, unveiled the statue of legendary playback singer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam (SPB) at Ravindra Bharathi here on Monday.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Sridhar Babu said that SPB, who rendered more than 40,000 songs in 14 Indian languages, demonstrating the universal appeal of music, had left an indelible mark on the history of Indian film music.
The Minister described him as an artiste who transcended linguistic and cultural boundaries, noting that SPB was not only an unparalleled playback singer but also a versatile actor, music composer and dubbing artiste. He observed that SPB’s singing was marked by natural expression and emotional depth, often giving the impression that the actors on screen were singing themselves.
Mr. Sridhar Babu added that SPB consistently encouraged young talent and embraced new musical trends while remaining rooted in discipline and humility. The statue, he said, symbolises a lasting tribute to Balasubrahmanyam’s artistic excellence and the values he embodied.
Reiterating the State government’s commitment to promoting art and culture, the Minister said efforts to honour and support artists would continue. The programme was attended by BJP State unit president N. Ramchander Rao and Balasubrahmanyam’s son S.P. Charan.
