A close aide of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal was shot by an unidentified assailant in Punjab’s Mansa district on Monday, police said.
According to preliminary information, the victim, Kala Jabandha, was at his shop in Bareta town when the attacker arrived and opened fire. A bullet struck him in the abdomen, following which he was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
As per the eyewitnesses, Jabandha was preparing to leave for home from his shop in the grain market when a man on a motorcycle intercepted him and fired at him before fleeing the scene.

“It appeared that a single bullet was fired," said local resident Gurjant Singh, adding that the unidentified assailant appeared to be in his 20s.
Punjab Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are examining CCTV footage from the area to identify the assailant. The motive behind the attack remains unclear.
Jabandha has served as the Shiromani Akali Dal’s zone in-charge and as a Zila Parishad member. He is also considered a close associate of SAD president and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.
