Uttar Pradesh Minister and Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) chief Om Prakash Rajbhar on Wednesday claimed that the Samajwadi Party (SP) was heading towards a major split, alleging that several leaders of the opposition party were prepared to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Rajbhar made the remarks in a post on X and later expanded on his allegations while speaking to news agency ANI, where he suggested that political developments in Uttar Pradesh could soon overshadow the turmoil currently being witnessed in other opposition parties.

Rajbhar’s remarks came at a time when political attention is focused on developments in Maharashtra, where Shiv Sena (UBT) is facing uncertainty after reports that some of its Lok Sabha MPs may be inclined to move towards the ruling Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde.

Drawing a parallel with the political churn being discussed in Maharashtra, the Uttar Pradesh minister suggested that the spotlight should now shift to Uttar Pradesh, claiming that significant developments were unfolding within the Samajwadi Party.

In a post on X, Rajbhar claimed that senior SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav had written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, though he did not provide any details or evidence regarding the alleged communication.

“A major split is going to happen in the Samajwadi Party. Ram Gopal Yadav has submitted a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah ji," Rajbhar wrote.

He further linked his claims to alleged corruption cases involving the Samajwadi Party and suggested that pressure from ongoing investigations had left the party uneasy.

“Everyone in Uttar Pradesh knows who the mastermind behind the mining scam and Gomti River Front scam is. As the noose tightens, the SP is getting anxious," he mentioned in the post.

Rajbhar went on to claim that defections from the Samajwadi Party could be on the horizon.

“Forget Maharashtra and Bengal – the entire SP is sitting ready to join the BJP," he added.

Referring to the ongoing political discussions around Maharashtra, Rajbhar said, “Only when someone is ready to be bought, people will buy them. Don’t keep your attention only on Maharashtra; it is UP’s number now."

Speaking again of the alleged letter, Rajbhar claimed that Ram Gopal Yadav had approached the Union Home Minister regarding certain party leaders.

“Didn’t you see that Ram Gopal ji has given a letter to Amit Shah ji and told him that these are the names, call them and take them with you, but keep us safe. Ram Gopal ji should tell what he wrote in his letter," Rajbhar said.

The Uttar Pradesh minister also referred to past cases involving the Samajwadi Party and questioned the outcomes of investigations linked to them.

“CBI has named Akhilesh ji in a mining-related case. Did anyone go to jail in the Gomti Riverfront case?" he asked.

Rajbhar heads the SBSP, an ally of the BJP-led NDA in Uttar Pradesh.

The Samajwadi Party had not issued any response to his allegations at the time of reporting.
