Manchester United’s recurring habit of coughing up leads resurfaced at Old Trafford as a struggling West Ham side battled back for a 1-1 draw.

Diogo Dalot, publicly called out last week by Ruben Amorim as one of those “far from his best," delivered a pointed response with his first Premier League goal in 19 months, sweeping home just before the hour mark after Casemiro’s deflected strike fell kindly at his feet.

Despite losing just once in their last eight league games, United again failed to turn dominance into victory — a pattern seen recently against Nottingham Forest, Tottenham, Everton and now the Hammers.

The result leaves Amorim’s side eighth, though still only two points off the top four.

West Ham Grow Into the Fight

Nuno Espírito Santo has sparked life into a relegation-threatened squad now sitting just two points from safety. They arrived without Lucas Paquetá — suspended after a dissent-fuelled red card against Liverpool — leaving Jarrod Bowen to carry the creative load. He nearly crafted a stunning opener, weaving past four United defenders before his effort deflected into Senne Lammens’ grateful gloves.

Missed Chances, Familiar Frustration

United welcomed Matheus Cunha back from injury, yet still lacked sharpness. Joshua Zirkzee, buoyed by ending his near year-long Premier League scoring drought on Sunday, was again muted as he deputised for the injured Benjamin Šeško. He did, however, produce a clever thigh-flick from Amad Diallo’s cross, only for Aaron Wan-Bissaka to clear off the line.

West Ham’s equaliser came from sustained pressure: Bowen won a corner, flicked Andy Irvine’s delivery goalwards, and although Noussair Mazraoui cleared off the line, he could only present the chance to Soungoutou Magassa, who buried his first goal in English football.

Bruno Fernandes had two big chances late on, but both flew wildly over — a fitting summary of a night where United once again let control slip through their fingers.
