Samrat dares Rabri to name minister’s son in medical aspirant death case

In a dramatic twist, Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has thrown down the gauntlet to former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, demanding she disclose the name of the minister's son implicated in the tragic death of a medical hopeful. Choudhary, who holds the dual title of state home minister, promised to push for rapid justice if credible evidence surfaces.

Patna: Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary on Friday termed former CM Rabri Devi’s allegation of a minister’s son being involved in the medical aspirant’s death case as unfortunate. The senior BJP leader challenged the RJD leader to publicly name the minister’s son if she had any evidence and assured that, as state home minister, he would ensure the accused was sent to jail within 24 hours.Rabri on Thursday accused the police of a cover-up, alleging that a minister or a minister’s son was involved in the alleged rape and death of a medical aspirant at a private hostel in Patna last month. The state govt has recommended a CBI probe into the case after the special investigation team (SIT) failed to make any breakthrough.Releasing a video on Friday morning, Samrat challenged Rabri to reveal the name and said withholding such information amounted to concealing evidence.

“The opposition is playing politics. Rabri has been the CM of Bihar. This was not expected from her. It is extremely unfortunate. If she knows that a minister’s son is involved, she should name him. If Rabri is not revealing the name, it means she is hiding the evidence.

She should tell the public the name. I guarantee that if the name of any minister or minister’s son comes up, we will send them to jail within 24 hours,” he said.

Rabri had alleged that someone in the govt was involved in the case, which was why it was being covered up before being handed over to the CBI.The girl from Jehanabad died on Jan 11 during treatment, a week after she was found unconscious in her hostel room. Initial police statements and subsequent forensic findings indicating the presence of male sperm on her clothes raised serious questions over the police investigation.
