Satellite images showing ships ablaze at Iran’s Bandar Abbas port and damage at the Parchin military base offer a glimpse of the impact of US and Israeli strikes on facilities linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Iranian military.

There has been very little information on the extent of damage across West Asia due to restrictions on sharing videos in Saudi Arabia and internet outages in Iran.

The images were released by Planet Labs PBC, a San Francisco-based firm whose satellite imagery is widely used by news organisations. The company said it has introduced a two-week delay before making imagery public, citing concerns that it could be used by “adversarial actors".

The United States and Israel have struck a range of targets in Iran, including military bases, missile and air defence systems, and sites linked to the Revolutionary Guard and its volunteer force, the Basij. Iran has responded with drone and missile attacks targeting Israel and nearby Gulf Arab countries.

The images provide some of the clearest indications yet of the toll of the conflict.

Among the most striking visuals are from Bandar Abbas, home to a major Iranian military port near the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.

Images taken on March 2 show ships on fire at the port. US Central Command has said it has sunk or damaged more than 100 Iranian vessels during the conflict.

Separate images from March 6 show damage to several buildings at the Parchin military complex near Tehran, reportedly caused by Israeli airstrikes.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has previously said Iran may have conducted high-explosive tests linked to nuclear weapons development, though Tehran maintains its nuclear programme is peaceful. Western intelligence agencies have said Iran’s active weapons programme was halted in 2003.

Israel’s military said its strikes on Parchin targeted “infrastructure used for the production of essential components for the development of various weapons". The site has also been linked to Iran’s ballistic missile programme.
