Saweetie breaks barriers as Monday Night Football’s first female music curator

Rapper Saweetie has made history as the first woman to curate music for ESPN’s Monday Night Football. On Saturday, September 6, 2025, fans joined her at the ESPN Red Nail Bar pop-up in New York City.

Bright red manicures done by her long-time nail artist, Temeka Jackson, were featured in the event, together with photo locations and football-themed nibbling. Saweetie, 32, stated football flows through her family, with her father, uncles, and grandfathers all playing at the university or NFL levels.

Saweetie explained that football shaped her childhood. “Football was the first sport I ever played,” she told PEOPLE. Having been raised in the Bay Area, she closely followed the San Francisco 49ers; football permeated family life.

For particular Monday Night Football games, including promotional segments, live broadcasts, and Monday Night Countdown, ESPN requested her to hand-select music. She called the role a “major milestone” and said she felt honored to represent both music and football.At the pop-up, fans tried themed treats, snapped photos, and got “ESPN Red” manicures. Saweetie wants to introduce upcoming artists to football audiences, not just play her own music.

She also teased that her own tracks might appear, showing how she plans to bring energy and personality to every game.

Saweetie teases her walkout track and musical plans

For her personal walkout track, Saweetie would choose “Do It for the Bay” with P-Lo, paying tribute to her Bay Area roots and lifelong love for the 49ers. “It’s the biggest night of the week, so I’m just happy they trust me and my music tastes,” she said.This new role allows Saweetie to combine her love for music and football, giving fans a fresh soundtrack for Monday Night Football while showcasing her own style and introducing rising artists to a wider audience.
