SC agrees to hear CBI’s plea against HC order acquitting 4 in custodial-death case

The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) plea challenging the Kerala High Court’s verdict that set aside the conviction of four accused in a 2005 custodial death case. A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta issued a notice to the accused and posted the matter for hearing on May 19.

The case pertains to the death of Udayakumar (28), who was allegedly into police custody in Thiruvananthapuram in September 2005 and was subjected to custodial torture, leading to his death the same day .The post-mortem revealed severe crush injuries to both thighs, which were determined to be the cause of the death.
