AP State Commission for Scheduled Castes member Ravada Seetharam directed revenue officials to settle the land issues of the families of the victims of Karamchedu incident that occurred on July 17, 1985. As many as six persons were killed and many others received injuries in the incident which caught attention of the nation in those days. Speaking to media, he said that he had visited Karamchedu village two days ago and interacted with the families who wanted sub-division of 62.06 acres of land allocated to kin of persons who were killed and injured in the incident. According to him, the family members of those victims are unable to take up agriculture due to the inordinate delay in the sub-division of the land among the victims’ children and grandchildren.
The Commission directed Joint Collector of Bapatla Bhavana Revenue Divisional Officer Chandra Sekhar Naidu to ensure sub-division and hand over the land for the beneficiaries. “Mutation should also be completed immediately,” said Mr.Seetharam. According to him, quick justice is needed for victims and their families in cases related to atrocities on Scheduled Castes persons in the State. He added that the Commission would collect data of Dalit issues of all the districts and resolve their grievances in a time bound manner.
