RAIPUR: A heart-wrenching road accident claimed the life of a school-going boy and left his sister critically injured after a traffic police tow truck allegedly ran them over in front of the Chhattisgarh Club, close to the chief minister’s residence, in Raipur on Friday morning.

According to eyewitnesses, the siblings were on their way to school when a traffic police towing vehicle hit them from behind in the posh Civil Lines area, a high-security zone with regular movement of official vehicles. The impact was so severe that the boy died on the spot, while the girl suffered serious injuries.The injured child was immediately rushed to Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, where her condition was stated to be critical.

The exact ages of the children and their school details were not immediately available.Eyewitnesses alleged that the tow truck driver fled the scene soon after the accident, triggering chaos and panic in the area. Locals gathered at the spot, raising questions over the speed and regulation of police vehicles in pedestrian-heavy zones, especially during school hours.Police officials reached the spot shortly after the incident and initiated an investigation. A case has been registered, and the body of the deceased child has been sent for post-mortem examination. Efforts are underway to trace the absconding driver, police said.Police said further investigation is in progress.
