‘Kavach 4.0’, the indigenous automatic train protection (ATP) system, has been sanctioned for 1,242 km and work is in progress for awarding tender for 410 km under the South Central Railway (SCR).
The ATP has been deployed on 627 km in the zone and in the last 10 years, around 499 rail flyovers and under-bridges have been constructed significantly reducing level crossings and improving safety for both rail passengers and road users, said an official release on Thursday.
Stating that infrastructure projects are gaining momentum across Telangana including the three high speed rail corridors sanctioned in the current budget, it said that more than 900 kilometres of new lines have been constructed in the State during the period.
Telangana is now a 100% rail electrified state with 1,115 km electrified and 900 km new lines constructed while projects such as Peddapalli–Nizamabad, Jaggayyapeta–Janpahad, Akkanpet–Medak and Bhadrachalam Road–Sattupalli, brought remote regions to the rail network. The ₹521 crore manufacturing unit at Kazipet is nearing completion with the capacity to make multiple types of rolling stock like coaches, and train sets., the release added.
