Scrap collecting woman robbed, left on road, dies in crash; accused held

Pune: The Pune Rural police on Wednesday arrested a history-sheeter on charges of robbing a 49-year-old scrap collector of gold jewellery worth Rs 80,000 after allegedly offering her a lift in his car near Shirur on June 27.After allegedly robbing the woman, the accused is said to have thrown her out of the car near the Shirur bypass. The victim, identified as Sangita Shinde of Dhavalgaon in Ahilyanagar district, later accepted a lift on a motorcycle while returning home. She was subsequently killed after the two-wheeler was hit by a truck near Shirur.Following the incident, the Ranjangaon MIDC police registered a robbery case, while the Shirur police filed a case of accidental death.

Although the Shirur police had traced the truck driver involved in the fatal accident, the robbery suspect had remained absconding.A Ranjangaon MIDC police team led by inspector Kumar Kadam analysed CCTV footage and identified the suspect’s car. Acting on the leads, the police laid a trap and arrested Vinod Jadhav (35), a resident of Babhulsar village in Shirur taluka.“We have recovered the car used in the crime and a knife from Jadhav,” an officer said.
