Second Attack In A Week: One Assam Rifles Jawan Killed, Four Injured In Suspected IED Blast In Nagaland

Following the blast, security forces launched a large-scale search operation in and around Sukhovi to identify and trace those responsible.

One Assam Rifles jawan was killed and four others were injured in a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Nagaland’s Chümoukedima district on Monday.

The explosion occurred near Sukhovi, where the Assam Rifles has a training centre. According to reports, the blast took place while Assam Rifles vehicles were moving through the area.

Defence Public Relations Officer (PRO), Kohima, confirmed that one security personnel lost his life in the explosion.

Four other Assam Rifles personnel sustained injuries in the incident. The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby medical facility for treatment. Their condition was not known at the time of reporting.

Officials have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the explosion.

Search operation launched

Following the blast, security forces launched a large-scale search operation in and around Sukhovi to identify and trace those responsible.

Officials said investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the explosion and establish whether it was triggered by an improvised explosive device.

Second attack in less than a week

The latest incident marks the second attack on Assam Rifles personnel in the Northeast in less than a week. On July 6, two soldiers of the 40th Battalion of the Assam Rifles were killed after suspected militants ambushed a convoy in Manipur’s Ukhrul district.

The back-to-back attacks have put security forces on alert as investigations continue into both incidents.
