Security categories of ruling, opposition leaders revised

In a bold reshuffle, Bihar's home department has revamped the security protocols for numerous political figures. While several leaders from the ruling party are stepping up to enhanced 'Z' and 'Y+' security, key opposition personalities like Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and Meira Kumar face a reduction in their protective measures.

Patna: The state home department has made changes to the security categories of more than a dozen leaders from both the ruling and opposition parties on Tuesday. The home dept has written a letter in this regard to the DGP following its meeting on Jan 16.While the security of 13 ruling party leaders has been increased, the dept reduced it for five leaders, including the leader of opposition in the state assembly, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav.BJP national president Nitin Nabin has been given ‘Z’ level and ‘BR Vehicle’ category security. Union minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh aka Lalan Singh, BJP state president Sanjay Saraogi and health minister Mangal Pandey will also now receive ‘Z’ category security.

Union minister Giriraj Singh will now receive Y+ category security, along with an escort vehicle.Jamui MP Arun Bharti has been given Y+ category security. AIMIM MLA Akhtarul Iman Y category security, MLAs Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha and Nitish Mishra Y category security.The home department has withdrawn the security of Congress state president Rajesh Kumar and former state president and current MLC Madan Mohan Jha and former Bihar assembly Speaker and RJD leader Uday Narayan Chaudhary.

Those whose security cover was reduced included RJD’s Tejashwi Prasad Yadav (from Z to Y+), Pashupati Paras (from Y to X), Congress’s Shakeel Ahmed (from Y to X), Meira Kumar (from Y+ to X) and Shatrughan Sinha (from Z to Y).Nawada MP Vivek Thakur will now receive Y+, JD(U) MLC Sanjay Kumar Singh Y, JD(U) spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan and former MLA Sunil Kumar X category security.The department has instructed the DGP and the IG of the special branch to ensure immediate compliance with the new orders.
