A major security lapse occurred in Lingasugur town on Sunday when a helicopter carrying Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah landed at an unscheduled location, triggering panic and confusion among officials.

The Chief Minister was expected to arrive at a specially prepared helipad at Srinivas Layout on Raichur Road. However, the pilot instead landed at a helipad on Kalaburagi Road, which had been designated for BJP MLA Manappa Vajjal.

High-ranking district officials, legislators and senior police officers were waiting at the original site. They were surprised when a different helicopter carrying Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi arrived there instead.

At the incorrect landing site, only two police sub-inspectors were present to receive the Chief Minister. Once the mistake was realised, officials and security personnel reportedly rushed across town to reach his actual location.

The incident has triggered a formal investigation to find out how such a serious navigational or communication error took place.
