Senior ordnance factory officer picked up by CBI in Nagpur tender probe

BHOPAL: A senior deputy general manager-level officer of the Ordnance Factory was picked up by the CBI on Wednesday night in connection with a corruption case registered by its Nagpur branch. The officer, posted at the Grey Iron Foundry (GIF) in Jabalpur, was taken from the factory premises for questioning. Officials said objectionable records and digital evidence were also seized during the raid. He was later taken to Delhi for further interrogation. The action follows a written complaint filed on July 7, 2025, by the Deputy Chief Vigilance Officer of Yantra India Limited (YIL), Nagpur, which was received by CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch on July 10. The complaint alleged that while posted at Ordnance Factory Ambajhari (OFAJ), Nagpur, the officer facilitated contracts for a proxy proprietorship firm floated in the name of a relative.According to the complaint, tenders were allegedly manipulated to favour the firm, which secured work orders on the strength of forged experience certificates. The complaint also cited multiple financial transactions between the firm’s accounts and those of the officer’s family members.

The flow of funds suggested a direct stake in the firm, raising suspicion of undue advantage through abuse of official position.

The involvement of other officials and private persons has not been ruled out.Based on the complaint, the CBI registered a case under IPC sections 120(B), 420, 468, and 471; provisions of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023; and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act (as amended in 2018). Sanction under Section 17A of the Act was accorded by the competent authority for the probe. Officials confirmed that incriminating records were seized in Jabalpur and said further investigation will focus on financial links and possible involvement of others.

The probe has been entrusted to Inspector Vijay Kumar Singh of CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch.
