Arsenal’s set-piece mastery hits new heights with a record-breaking 17th corner goal, sending them top of the Premier League. But can it finally deliver the title?

“Set Piece Again, Ole Ole Ole."

Arsenal have stayed true to their now-famous chant and turned dead-ball situations into an art form this season.

And on Saturday at the Emirates, it paid off yet again against Newcastle United — and helped etch a bit of Premier League history too.

Eberechi Eze delivered the decisive moment, finishing off a cleverly worked short corner routine as the Gunners played out a tough 1-0 win against the Magpies — a victory that took them to the top of the table again.

The other surprising aspect? It was Arsenal’s 17th goal from a corner in the 2025–26 Premier League season, which in itself set a new all-time record.

32 Years In The Making

The previous benchmark for goals scored from corners stood at 16 since the league’s inaugural 1992–93 season, when Oldham Athletic set the tone.

Oldham were later matched by West Bromwich Albion in 2016–17 and Arsenal themselves in 2023–24. And now, it’s the Gunners alone, who can lay claim to the top spot here.

With 17 goals and counting, and still four games left in the campaign, it wouldn’t be beyond one’s imagination to expect Mikel Arteta’s team to push that number even further.

Corners A Pivotal Part Of Gunners’ Identity

There’s a reason why everybody hates it when the Gunners get a corner kick.

Set-pieces have become central to Arsenal’s attacking blueprint this season, especially. Whether it’s near-post flicks, crowding the keeper, or inventive short routines like the one against Newcastle, Arsenal have weaponised every variation.

But will it be enough?

Records are nice. But unless Arsenal convert this dominance into silverware, it will all feel like a missed opportunity.

Because the real prize still hangs in the balance — the Premier League title, which has eluded North London for 22 years.

Arsenal may have leapfrogged Manchester City for now, but the title race is far from settled. With every game now a must-win, the equation is simple: keep winning to keep the pressure on Pep Guardiola’s side and pray City slip up.

As Declan Rice put it: “It’s not over."
