A police inspector was killed and several others injured after a tsunami swing collapsed at the Surajkund Fair in Faridabad on Saturday, officials said.

The incident occurred when the swing malfunctioned and broke, injuring multiple visitors at the fair. Jagdish Prasad, a police inspector who rushed to the spot to help rescue the injured, sustained critical injuries during the operation. He later succumbed to his injuries, officials confirmed.

Authorities said at least 13 people were injured in the accident. Senior district officials, including the Deputy Commissioner, the Managing Director of Tourism and senior police officers, reached the site soon after the incident. The area was immediately barricaded to prevent any further mishaps.

Officials also said that earlier in the day, a gate at the food court area of the fair had reportedly collapsed due to strong winds, raising safety concerns at the venue.

Emergency teams remain at the site, and further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation, officials added.
