Surat: The process of starting a Textile Export Facilitation Center (TEFC) in Surat by the central textile ministry has now started moving forward. The ministry has started the process of finding a suitable place for this center in Surat through the textile committee. Meanwhile, the South Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) has proposed that this center be started in the chamber campus itself so that textile industrialists can get more facilities.

The central government has made a plan to start TEFC with the aim of increasing exports in selected textile clusters of the country. In this, Surat has been selected as a pilot project for the technical textile and man-made fiber (MMF) segment. After the launch of this center, textile industrialists will get export-related guidance, information on international markets, quality standards and help in the certification process. It is worth mentioning here that Surat is the largest producer of polyester fabrics in the country, so now this center will be set up to increase exports.

The establishment of a textile export facilitation center in Surat will give industrialists access to market intelligence, export documentation, international standards and an opportunity to connect with new buyers. This center can prove to be especially important for small and medium industrialists. Because they will easily get guidance and technical assistance regarding the export process. According to industry experts, if implemented properly, this initiative can give a new momentum to Surat’s textile exports.

Kiran Thummar, chairman of the chamber’s Golden Jubilee Memorial Trust, said that the textile committee officials have considered some possible locations in Surat. The chamber believes that if this center is built on the chamber’s campus, it can be easier for textile industrialists to get export-related services. Since the chamber already has direct contact with industrialists and the necessary infrastructure is available, this center will be able to function more effectively.

Surat is the largest man-made fiber-based textile cluster in the country. A large amount of polyester, nylon and other synthetic fabrics are being produced from here, but most of the trade is still based on the domestic market. It is expected that the start of TEFC will provide guidance to industrialists on the export process and will also increase opportunities to enter new international markets.
