A second-year BDS student at Sharda University tragically died by suicide in her hostel room, prompting a police investigation. A suicide note implicated two faculty members for alleged mental harassment, leading to their arrest.
NEW DELHI: A second-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) student at Sharda University allegedly died by suicide in her hostel room, police said on Saturday.The student was found hanging in her room at the girls' hostel located on the university's Knowledge Park campus.
Police reached the spot shortly after receiving information and sent the body for postmortem.A suicide note was recovered from the room, in which the student accused one male and one female faculty member from the university’s dental department of mentally harassing her, officials said.
Police added that while the student had shown signs of mental distress in recent days, no official complaint had been lodged earlier.“On 18th July 2025, Thana Knowledge Park Police received information that a girl student died by suicide by hanging herself to death at a hostel of Sharda University. Police reached the spot and did the ‘panchayatnama’. Relatives have reached the spot. As per their complaint, an FIR has been registered under relevant sections. Two accused have been taken into custody for questioning. Students were agitated over Sharda University’s administration.
They were pacified. The situation is under control. Further action is being undertaken,” said Greater Noida ADCP Sudhir Kumar.
“We received the news on Friday. When we reached the spot, along with the forensics team, we found that the girl had hanged herself. We have also found a suicide note, in which she has made allegations against the university faculty. We have filed an FIR and arrested the two people named in the note,” police added.The student's family rushed to the hostel upon receiving the information. Police coordinated with them and facilitated legal formalities.A forensic team also inspected the room and collected evidence. The body was sent for postmortem and further investigation is underway.
