As a probe into the death of model Twisha Sharma proceeds, a viral audio clip between the deceased’s brother and mother-in-law — who faces police scrutiny over allegations of dowry harassment and mental torture — has surfaced.

Twisha Sharma, a 33-year-old model and actress, was found dead at her in-laws’ house in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal on May 12, following which, allegations of dowry harassment, physical and mental abuse came to light.

Sharma’s mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, questioned her character in the purported audio clip, her family alleged, claiming it reflected her “depraved mindset".

Meenakshi Sharma, Twisha Sharma’s cousin, also reacted to the audio clip between the deceased’s brother, Major Harshit Sharma, and her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh.

“In the audio, she can be clearly heard questioning Twisha’s character," she told news agency ANI. She further alleged, “Even now, she is speaking ill of her daughter-in-law."

The Audio Clip In Question

The audio clip in question — involving a conversation between Major Harshit Sharma and Giribala Singh — surfaced after Twisha’s death.

According to a Times of India report, Singh — who is also a retired judge — can be heard saying “promiscuity can be a habit" as she defended questioning her daughter-in-law about her past relationships.

She also justified having asked Twisha if she “had been with other men". In the audio clip, she claims that she had worked in Reshampura in Gwalior and had also “worked with prostitutes", adding “some people sell their bodies and then they climb the social ladder", TOI reported.

Twisha Sharma’s death has shed light on dowry harassment cases in the country that often go unheard, unnoticed.

The deceased’s husband, Samarth Singh, surrendered in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur on Friday after being at large for 10 days. A further probe is underway into the matter.
