'She Wanted To Make Her Parents Proud': Kin Recall IRS Officer's Daughter Raped, Murdered In Delhi

Once full of dreams, the 22-year-old daughter of an IRS officer wanted to make her parents proud. Just like her father, she wanted to become a bureaucrat and serve the nation.

An IIT-graduate and a UPSC aspirant, she was raped and murdered at her residence in South Delhi’s Amar Colony on Wednesday.

“You have been sitting in Dad’s official car with a red beacon. You will soon sit in mine," she had once said, her aunt recalled on Wednesday, as quoted by Hindustan Times. 

Seeing her spirit and dedication, her family reckoned that she would crack the UPSC examination, scheduled in May, on her first attempt.

“She was so full of life. She just wanted to make her parents proud," said the aunt, as she described her niece with teary eyes.

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning. In his complaint to police, the victim’s father said their worst fears had come true, Hindustan Times reported.

‘Exceptionally Good In Studies’

The victim’s brother had got engaged a few months ago, the aunt said, adding, “She was so happy for the engagement and they were all waiting for her exam to end in May so they could start preparing for the wedding".

The aunt recalled she was “exceptionally good in studies". She had attended a well-recognised school in South Delhi, moving on to pursue engineering from the renowned Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi.

For the past one year, she had been preparing for the UPSC exams. “We all knew she’ll be able to crack her UPSC examination in the first attempt only," said the aunt, as quoted by HT. 

‘Down To Earth, Full Of Humility’

A neighbour, who is close to the family, recalled the victim was “down to earth" and “full of humility".

“She and my granddaughter went to France together for an exchange programme when they were in school," she said.

The incident happened on Wednesday morning when the victim was alone at her residence. Her parents were away at the gym.

Upon returning, they found their daughter lying in a pool of blood, with her clothes torn. They immediately dressed her, covered her with a bedsheet and rushed to a hospital.

She was declared dead on arrival. A post-mortem conducted later on Wednesday confirmed she was sexually assaulted and strangled to death.

Hours after the incident, the police said a former domestic help, Rahul Meena, had been arrested from Dwarka. He is being charged with rape, murder, and robbery.
