A decade-long relationship ended in a brutal crime in Faridabad, where a 33-year-old woman was found strangled in a hotel room. The accused, identified as Deepak, has admitted to killing his girlfriend Shibba, claiming religious differences and pressure to marry as the motive.

According to police, the murder took place on July 24 inside a hotel in IP Colony under Sector-31 police station. Shibba, a resident of Mohan Baba Nagar in Badarpur, Delhi, worked as an insurance advisor with a private bank. That morning, she told her family she was heading to the office as usual. Later in the day, she even called her mother to ask about lunch. But by nightfall, she hadn’t returned. Her phone rang unanswered through the night.

On July 25, hotel staff alerted police after the room remained locked well past checkout time. When they entered, they found Shibba’s lifeless body on the bed. Marks on her neck pointed to strangulation.

Security footage confirmed that Shibba had checked in with a man on July 24. He was later identified as Deepak, a resident of the same neighbourhood in Delhi. The footage showed him leaving alone that evening.

Police handed the case over to Crime Branch DLF, which tracked Deepak’s location through his mobile phone. He was arrested from Delhi’s Nizamuddin area and has since been remanded to police custody for two days.

“During interrogation, the accused confessed that he killed the woman because she was pressuring him for marriage," said police spokesperson Yashpal, adding, “He also stated that since she was Muslim, he did not want to continue the relationship."

Deepak reportedly told investigators that their relationship had started about ten years ago and was initially cordial. Over time, he claimed, differences began to emerge, particularly over marriage. Deepak works as an online seller of clothes, police said.

Shibba’s mother, Razia, filed a formal complaint alleging that Deepak lured her daughter to the hotel and killed her. Her uncle Riyazuddin shared that Shibba had chosen not to marry so she could take care of her widowed mother. Her father passed away around two decades ago. She was the second of three sisters; both her siblings are married.

Police say they are now focusing on piecing together the final details of what led to the murder.
