Nepal Protests: A wave of violent protests, led by Nepal’s youth, also referred to as “Gen Z", continued for the second day after protestors resorted to arson and vandalism in various parts of Kathmandu and other regions of the Himalayan nation.

Several political leaders, including cabinet ministers, were injured Gen Z protestors torched and set ablaze their residences and official buildings, including the Parliament and the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli tendered his resignation on Tuesday after anti-government protests, launched against the government’s ban on social media, spiralled out of control. The protests left 19 people dead and over 300 others injured. The protests have escalated a day after Oli revoked the ban on social media, a key trigger for the nationwide protests.

The protesters, under the banner of Gen Z, shouted slogans such as “KP Chor, Desh Chhod" (KP thief, leave the country) and “Take Action Against Corrupt Leaders" in multiple parts of the capital city, Kathmandu, news agency PTI reported.

Amid the ongoing agitation, the Gen Z protestors torched the residence of the outgoing Prime Minister’s residence in Bhaktapur, while he was at the Prime Minister’s residence at Balwatar.

Protesters also torched the residence of former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak at Naikap in Kathmandu, even after he had resigned from his post on Monday. Foreign Minister Arju Rana also suffered injuries.

Videos of Nepal President Ram Chandra Poudel’s private residence being vandalised by angry protestors is going viral on social media.

The demonstrators had also set fire to the house of Communication Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung and pelted stones at Finance Minister Bishnu Paudel’s residence.

A video has also surfaced in which Bishnu Prasad Paudel was chased on a road and thrashed by demonstrators. In the video, over two dozen people were seen chasing while Paudel was running for his life. A man was seen kicking and others beating him up.

Residences of former Nepali Prime Ministers Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda and Sher Bahadur Deuba were also damaged by protestors. The residence of Energy Minister Deepak Khadka was set on fire by protesters.

Meanwhile, many government officials are reported to have left the capital Kathmandu.

Official buildings, party offices, police stations have not been spared, with continuous incidents of destruction reported throughout the day.

Authorities are struggling to contain the violence as protesters continue to move through key government and political sites in Kathmandu.

In a statement on Monday, Gen Z demanded dissolution of Parliament, mass resignation of parliamentarians and immediate suspension of those who gave “shoot to kill" or violent orders during protests. The group said that the interim government should be led by a person recommended by protesters while calling for early elections.
