Shiv Sena Operation Tiger, Maharashtra Politics Live Updates: The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) is battling a fresh political crisis amid reports that a majority of its Lok Sabha MPs may be preparing to switch sides.

The development has triggered intense political activity in New Delhi, with the party leadership scrambling to prevent another split similar to the 2022 rebellion led by Eknath Shinde.

EMERGENCY WHIP ISSUED TO ALL MPs

In a bid to assess its strength and contain the damage, Shiv Sena (UBT) has issued a mandatory three-line whip directing all nine of its Lok Sabha MPs to attend an emergency parliamentary party meeting in Delhi today. Chief Whip Anil Desai said the presence of every MP was compulsory, signalling that the party intends to take a firm stand against any potential defection.

Amid the growing speculation, a group of rebel MPs held an informal meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

Reports suggested that the lawmakers told the Speaker they enjoyed the support of six MPs, the two-thirds mark required to seek protection under anti-defection provisions.

However, Sena (UBT) leaders insist the rebel camp does not yet have the backing of six members.

Senior leaders Sanjay Raut, Arvind Sawant and Anil Desai also met Speaker Om Birla, urging him not to entertain any move that could facilitate an unlawful split. The party has cited anti-defection laws and constitutional provisions while seeking protection for its parliamentary strength.

It all began after Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut launched a strong attack on the alleged rebels, claiming that efforts were underway to lure MPs away from the party.

He alleged that lawmakers were being offered huge financial inducements and challenged those planning to leave to resign and seek a fresh mandate from voters.

THURSDAY MEETING SEEN AS CRUCIAL

All eyes are now on Thursday’s parliamentary party meeting, which is expected to reveal whether Uddhav Thackeray can retain control over his MPs or faces yet another damaging split in the Shiv Sena.
