With the absence of the Station House Officer causing inconvenience to the general public and delay in redressing grievances, the city police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh said that the department is working on streamlining the system.

Speaking to reporters at the press club on Thursday, Mr. Singh said that it is the inspector who is in charge of the station, but with other duties to attend, he or she is on the move all the time. Under such circumstances, the inspector is required to handover the charge by writing it down on the station house dairy.

But this is not happening for many reasons, and the people who come to the station with their grievances have to wait for the officer in charge to return. This is resulting in inordinate delays in handling the complaints that require immediate attention.

Recently, in the Whitefield police station limits, a food delivery executive was robbed of his mobile phone by two men on a scooter at knife point. When the victim went to file a complaint, the staff reportedly sent him back saying that the officer had gone out and asked him to come back later.

Many complaints and disputes that come to the station can be resolved through dialogue on the spot if attended immediately, a senior police officer said.

“We are aware of the issue and are taking measures to resolve it at the earliest,” Mr. Singh added.
