East Bengal have decided to mutually part ways with striker Dimitrios Diamantakos, just two weeks after he scored twice in their big win against arch-rivals Mohun Bagan in the quarterfinals of the Durand Cup. The announcement was made by the team on Monday.

Diamantakos arrived at the Red and Gold Brigade ahead of the 2024–25 season amidst high expectations, after a brilliant two-year spell with the Kerala Blasters FC, where he recorded double-digit goals in both Indian Super League campaigns.

At East Bengal, Diamantakos contributed nine goals across all competitions last season; four in the AFC Challenge League, four in the Indian Super League and one in the Durand Cup.

“Dimitrios Diamantakos and East Bengal FC have decided to part ways by mutual consent. We would like to thank Dimi 🇬🇷 for his services during his stint with the club," East Bengal said in a statement.

Diamantakos, who signed for the Red and Gold in June 2024 on a two-year deal from Kerala Blasters SC, played 32 times for the Kolkata club across all competitions, scoring 12 goals and bagging four assists.

At the international level, Diamantakos has represented Greece’s senior national side and was part of the Greek team that finished runner-up in the 2012 UEFA European U-19 Championship.

Diamantakos’ brightest moment during his stay with East Bengal came in the Durand Cup, where his twin goals decided the fate of the Kolkata Derby.

Thanks to Diamantakos’ goals, the Red and Gold Brigade edged past arch-rivals Mohun Bagan to bag a place in the semifinal. But they couldn’t cross the semifinal hurdle, succumbing to a shocking loss to Diamond Harbour FC.

Diamantakos’ memorable derby performance last month stood out as a defining moment of his tenure with the Red and Gold Brigade, while the semifinal clash against Diamond Harbour FC marked his final outing.
