Pennsylvania State Police confirmed the incident as a suicide attempt but did not reveal the individual’s identity.

“This incident was a suicide attempt, and out of respect for the individual and their family, we do not release information," Trooper Lauren Lesher stated as quoted in Mirror. She added that releasing more details could potentially expose the victim.

Others Hurt While Trying To Save Him

The report mentioned that a female employee sustained minor burns while attempting to rescue the cook, along with other staff who tried to intervene. The shocking nature of the event prompted the restaurant to remain closed for several days.

A manager at the chain, which has around 900 locations across the US, refused to comment citing privacy laws: “We are not able to disclose anything due to our privacy laws."

Emergency Calls Capture Chaos

Audio from Lycoming County fire and EMS dispatch highlighted the urgency and confusion during the incident. A dispatcher was heard saying, “I don’t have a lot of details – a lot of people screaming – some kind of a burn victim."

Emergency services reportedly arrived at the restaurant at around 4 PM following 911 calls about the employee attempting self-harm.

In a later transmission, the dispatcher clarified, “a male victim went headfirst into the fryers," and confirmed that Pennsylvania State Police were already on their way to the scene.

As the first ambulance crew arrived, a second unit was dispatched to attend to a female employee who had suffered minor burns while trying to intervene during the incident. Several staff members, along with at least one patron, attempted to prevent the cook from causing further harm.

Despite immediate medical attention and being rushed to the hospital, the employee succumbed to his injuries.
