 A Vadivelu-deva number gets a modern makeover in 'Love Oh Love'

Director Magesh Rajendran tells us how the team has altered the song to align with the sensibilities of today’s audience.

Nearly thirty years after its release, the song Vaadi Pottapulla Veliye ( Kaalam Maari Pochu ), sung by Vadivelu and composed by Deva, has been given a modern spin by the young cast and crew of the romcom Love Oh Love .

So, the opening words of the track have been changed to ‘ Vaadi Chellakutty Veliye ’,” he informs.

The song, he shares, appears at a necessary juncture in the film. “My film will give equal importance to both the hero and the heroine. Acclaimed cinematographer PG Muthiah, who has worked in several popular Tamil films, including Poo , Kanden Kadhalai and Settai , states that the team wanted the song sequence to be “dreamy” and adds, “The original song was filmed more traditionally. But we’re trying to do it differently without imitating Vadivelu sir. Generally, I don’t use zoom shots. But for this song, I tried a few things, like using a gimbal with zoom.

The dance and costumes will be trendy and not in ’90s style.”
