A shop collapsed in Agra on Wednesday afternoon in Agra's Subash Bazar amid rainfall
Agra: Five people were trapped after a garment shop built over a drain collapsed in Agra’s Subhash Bazaar on Wednesday afternoon amid heavy rainfall, triggering a massive multi-agency rescue operation.Four of the trapped people were rescued and sent to SN Medical College and District Hospital. The rescued victims—identified as Lucknow police personnel Anita Singh (40), shop owner Krishna Kumar (25), Tola Ram (71) and Lala Bhai (60.Efforts are still underway to locate Anita’s aunt, 58-year-old Ganga Devi, who remains trapped under the rubble.The incident occurred around 2:30 pm under Mantola police station limits when the structure, located near the Jama Masjid, suddenly gave way.
Police said commercial structures built over the drain have developed severe cracks due to continuous rainfall.Emergency teams, including the police, district administration, fire department personnel, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), rushed to the spot. A Multi-Disaster Response Vehicle of the fire department was also deployed to remove the debris.Agra district magistrate Manish Bansal and DCP (City) Syed Ali Abbas were on the site to supervise the rescue operation. Local traders also joined the rescue efforts, while municipal corporation officials arrived to assess the situation.
