Shwetha Menon rules out exit from AMMA

Kochi: Actor Shwetha Menon, who reportedly quit as AMMA president more than a week ago, along with other office-bearers amid a dispute within the actors’ body, has now indicated she has no plans to step down, alleging ‘vested interests’ were trying to hijack the organisation by misleading members.

In a Facebook post, she maintained she had not cheated anyone or ‘orphaned’ AMMA and asked where its bylaws provided for an ad hoc committee.Referring to AMMA’s annual general body meeting on June 21, Shwetha alleged 10 to 15 members attended with a pre-planned agenda demanding the resignation, circulating a resolution with ‘baseless accusations’ that lacked legal validity, having failed to secure the required two-thirds majority. The previous committee should continue until fresh elections, she argued, citing precedent from after the earlier committee, led by Mohanlal, resigned. AMMA’s welfare activities had continued uninterrupted, she added, accusing some of exploiting her silence to seize control.Meanwhile, actor Ansiba Hasan approached the Ernakulam JFCM court seeking a probe into her defamation complaint at Palarivattom police station, alleging inaction. She filed the petition Thursday against actor Lakshmipriya and two YouTubers over alleged defamatory remarks in an interview, and sought a probe into Shwetha Menon’s alleged role. The court directed police to file a report, posting the matter for July 9.

Kadavanthra police on Wednesday registered an FIR against actor Tini Tom on Hasan’s complaint alleging communal abuse, following the court’s direction.
