SI suspended after 36yo woman accuses him of rape, assault

Bareilly: A sub-inspector (SI) posted at a police station in Bareilly was suspended after a woman (36) accused him of rape, assault, and cheating on the pretext of marriage. The woman approached the SSP’s office on Tuesday evening and sought registration of an FIR against the accused (50), his wife, and two sons.As per the complaint, the woman, who has been living separately from her husband since 2022, met the SI in 2025 when she visited the police station to lodge a complaint against her husband and in-laws. She alleged that the accused promised to help her secure a job through his contacts with senior officials and assured her that he would divorce his wife and marry her.The woman alleged that the SI established a physical relationship with her, took gold jewellery worth around Rs 8 lakh for his son’s wedding in Feb this year, and threatened her when she sought its return. She further alleged that he forced her to take abortion pills after she became pregnant and later assaulted her with his wife and sons on May 23.SSP Anurag Arya told TOI, “The woman had earlier filed two rape cases against different men. However, the SI was on talking terms with her. Prima facie, this amounts to a violation of police rules, owing to which he has been suspended.”
