Sidharth Malhotra went to this Delhi University college before his big Bollywood debut

Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani have just stepped into a new role as parents. The couple recently welcomed their first child, marking a heartwarming new chapter in their lives and giving fans another reason to celebrate their Bollywood fairytale. But as Sidharth embraces fatherhood, it’s worth revisiting the lesser-known chapters of his own story, ones that unfolded not on film sets, but in Delhi’s classrooms and college corridors. Long before he made his starry debut with Student of the Year in 2012, he was just a young Delhi boy navigating school life, balancing studies with ambition, and dreaming far beyond the city limits.A proud product of the capital’s academic ecosystem, Sidharth Malhotra is an alumnus of Delhi University, where his journey from student to superstar quietly began.

Early life and school education

Born on January 16, 1985, in New Delhi, Sidharth grew up in a close-knit Punjabi family. His father, Sunil Malhotra, was a Merchant Navy officer, and his mother, Rimma Malhotra, a homemaker. Raised in a household that balanced discipline with cultural values, Sidharth attended Don Bosco School, Alaknanda, for his early schooling. Later, he studied at Naval Public School, Chanakyapuri. It was in these classrooms that Sidharth developed interests beyond textbooks, from sports to drama, laying the foundation for the multi-talented personality he is today.

A South Campus student at heart

After finishing school, Sidharth joined Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, a well-regarded institution under Delhi University, to pursue a degree in commerce. Located in DU’s South Campus, the college is known for its academic strength and vibrant student life — and it was here that Sidharth first explored modeling alongside his studies. While balancing lectures and photo shoots, he realized that the conventional 9-to-5 life wasn’t for him.

Though he performed well academically, the urge to do something more creative was too strong to ignore.

Modeling, movies, and moving on

By 18, Sidharth had begun modelling professionally, working with top designers and brands. But within four years, he grew disillusioned with the glamour and turned his focus to film — not as an actor at first, but as an assistant director to Karan Johar on My Name Is Khan (2010). That behind-the-scenes experience prepared him for the big screen in ways no classroom could.Just two years later, he landed his debut role in Student of the Year, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Now a father, always a student

With the birth of his daughter in 2025, Sidharth steps into a new role, that of a father. And while his Bollywood journey has had its ups and downs, it’s his grounded upbringing and education that continue to anchor him. From Delhi classrooms to Dharma sets, Sidharth’s story is a powerful reminder that education is more than degrees: it’s the platform from which dreams take flight.TOI Education is on WhatsApp now.
