Bhopal: A cache of 49 silver coins, believed to be from the Mughal era, was unearthed during excavation for a house foundation in Sagar’s Reguwa village on Wednesday.The coins were discovered when labourers digging the foundation of a house under construction came across an earthen pot buried underground.
On opening it, they found dozens of silver coins bearing inscriptions in the Urdu-Persian script.The house owner, Dayal Ahirwar, informed the police and later deposited the coins at the Garhakota police station.Police said the coins appear to be old and may belong to the Mughal period, though their age and historical significance will be confirmed only after an expert examination.Police said a total of 49 silver coins were recovered and handed over to authorities. The local tehsildar was informed and subsequently seized the coins. The Archaeological Department has also been notified for further examination.Officials said the coins will be studied by experts to determine their origin, period and archaeological value.
