Six held with ₹14.4 lakh cash, 153 ATM cards in Trichy

Trichy: Trichy police on Sunday arrested a gang of six men from a rental house in Subramaniapuram and seized ₹14.4 lakh in cash, 153 ATM cards, three two-wheelers, a car, 52 mobile phones, 21 SIM cards, a laptop with modem, and a cash counting machine from them.Police identified the arrested men as Thameem Ansari, 28, K Palani Murugan, 29, K Rajkumar, 22, M Praveen, 24, M Muthamilselvan, 24, and A Asmir Ali, 32, all from Ramanathapuram district. KK Nagar police charged them with suspected identity theft and impersonation under the IT Act.Police said A Nasureedan rented his house situated on Raja Street in Subramaniapuram to Thameem Ansari of Vandikara Street in Ramanathapuram. Nasureedan was informed about suspicious activity and movement of multiple people in his house.On Sunday, Nasureedan visited his property and urged Thameem Ansari to vacate the house as unidentified people were staying in the house. At that time, the accused abused and assaulted him by hand. Nasureedan then alerted police, who arrived at the spot and inspected the house following the suspicious behaviour of the accused.Police registered a case under sections 191(2) (rioting), 296(b) (obscene act), 115(2) (causing hurt), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 61(2) (criminal conspiracy), 318(4) (cheating) and 336(3) (forgery) of the BNS Act and Section 66(C) of the Information Technology Act (identity theft). Further investigation is on.
