Sunil Shelke's demand for an SIT into Lohagad murder triggered rare cross-party consensus, with BJP's Mungantiwar joining in — protem Speaker Khare then directed government to act.

The Ketan Agarwal murder case reached the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly on Thursday, with an NCP MLA making a explosive claim: that Siya Goyal‘s family knew about her relationship with Chetan Chaudhary — and said nothing. The assembly subsequently directed the state government to form a Special Investigation Team to probe the Lohagad Fort murder.
NCP MLA Sunil Shelke raised a point of information in the House, demanding not just an SIT but also an investigation into Siya Goyal’s immediate family members. Shelke alleged the Goyal family had been aware of Siya’s relationship with Chetan and chose to conceal it. He also pushed for the case to be tried in a fast-track court.
Did The Goyal Family Know — And Stay Silent?
Shelke’s allegation is the sharpest new development to emerge from Thursday’s session. “The Goyal family members knew about her relationship from the past," he told the assembly. “I demand that her immediate family members should also be investigated for this crime." If investigators pursue this angle, the case — already a story of love, betrayal and cold-blooded planning — could widen significantly.
What Did The Assembly Decide?
Shelke’s submission triggered a rare cross-party consensus. BJP MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar joined the demand for an SIT, and protem Speaker Raju Khare — an NCP (SP) MLA presiding over the House — directed the state government to constitute one. However, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Bhaskar Jadhav raised a procedural objection, questioning whether a protem speaker holds the authority to issue such a direction. The final decision, it was clarified, will rest with the regular Speaker.
Where Does The Investigation Stand?
Pune Rural Police arrested Siya Goyal, 20, and Chetan Chaudhary, 22, five days after Ketan Agarwal, 25 — from a prominent real-estate family — fell to his death at Lohagad Fort on June 18. What was initially reported as an accidental fall while clicking photographs was subsequently established as premeditated murder.
Both accused have confessed, police said. Investigators are also probing whether June 18 was in fact their fourth attempt to kill Agarwal.
