Samar Muhammad Abu Zamar, the widow of slain Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, has allegedly remarried in Turkey, according to a report by Israeli news outlet Ynet.
The report mentioned Abu Zamar fled war-torn Gaza strip with her children using forged documents and significant logistical support.
Holding a master’s degree in theology from the Islamic University of Gaza, Zamar had tied knot with Sinwar in 2011.
The Ynet report further stated that she crossed into Egypt through the Rafah border using a fake passport belonging to another Gazan woman. The operation to send her out of the besieged strip required high-level coordination and substantial funds, reportedly far beyond the reach of average Gaza residents.
Her remarriage in Turkey, after the killing of Yahya Sinwar in October 2024, was allegedly arranged by senior Hamas official Fathi Hammad. He is known for organizing the relocation of Hamas members’ families from conflict zones.
The report further suggested the Palestinian militant group established a covert system during the early stages of Israel-Gaza conflict to smuggle out the families of high-ranking operatives using fake documents and fictitious medical records.
It is learnt that Najwa, the widow of Sinwar’s brother Mohammed—who briefly headed the Iran-backed group following Sinwar’s death— also fled Gaza through the same network. Israeli security sources confirmed both women left the territory via Rafah before their husbands were eliminated.
Yahya Sinwar was killed by Israeli forces on October 16, 2024, during a patrol in Rafah’s Tal al-Sultan neighborhood. A drone located him in a damaged building. Footage later showed him injured and attempting to fend off the drone with a stick before being fatally shot.
The war in Gaza has now entered its 21st month. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, over 59,000 Palestinians have lost their lives so far. UN agencies warn of famine-like conditions, with aid severely restricted since March 2. At least 111 people, including infants, have recently died from hunger, and nearly 100,000 women and children face severe acute malnutrition.
A UN-backed report warns that nearly all of Gaza’s 2.1 million residents suffer from food insecurity, with around 470,000 enduring catastrophic hunger.
