Police resorted to a cane charge to disperse the crowd after the slipper was thrown

A slipper was hurled at Chikkaballapur MLA Pradeep Eshwar during a Kempegowda Jayanti programme held at Kannada Bhavan in Chikkaballapur, Karnataka, on Saturday.

The incident took place after a section of the audience, reportedly including JD(S) workers and members of the Vokkaliga community, expressed anger over the MLA’s recent remarks against Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy and demanded an apology from him.

The Congress MLA’s comments on HD Kumaraswamy had stated, “Kumaraswamy wore watches worth crores. He has more than 60 expensive wrist watches. Does he have the guts to answer this? Has Anitha Kumaraswamy purchased 32 acres of land at Bidadi by selling Ramraj Panches?"

Following the incident, the MLA was escorted by police to his car. He was seen twirling his moustache and slapping his shoulder as a gesture of defiance, before raising slogans in support of Ambedkar, Valmiki and SC/STs. In response, an agitated person hurled a slipper towards him.

Police resorted to a cane charge to disperse the crowd after the slipper was thrown and detained the individual who allegedly hurled it.

However, some people at the spot allegedly tried to prevent police from taking the person into custody, leading to a scuffle and heavy pushing and shoving between the crowd and police personnel.
