Germany legend winner and Real Madrid icon Toni Kroos clapped back at former Chelsea player John Obi-Mikel after the latter claimed that he was a better footballer than the World Cup-winner.

Obi-Mikel criticised Kroos of being a mediocre and stated that he’d have enjoyed as much success as the German had he represented the Spanish giants.

“Toni Kroos has been a mediocre midfielder. I was a better player than him," the Nigerian said.

“The big difference was that I didn’t play for Real Madrid," he had added.

Kroos took to social media platform Instagram to hit back with a caption that read, “So why didn’t you play for Real Madrid?"

Kroos, who had youth stints at Greifswalder SC, Hansa Rostock before joining Bayern Munich’s academy where he would eventually go on to make his senior debut in 2007 went on to enjoy massive success with the Bavarian giants as he clinched the Bundesliga thrice in addition to three DFB Pokals, the DFB Supercup, the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super League and the FIFA Club World Cup.

He made the switch to Real Madrid in 2014, where even more success followed in the form of five more UCL title, in addition to four La Liga crowns, a Copa Del Rey win, four Supercopa de Espana victories, three UEFA Supe Cups and five FIFA Club World Cup titles. Kroos reach sporting pinnacle in the year 2014 when he powered Germany to their fourth and latest World Cup title in Brazil.

Obi-Mikel’s best club spell came with Chelsea as he helped the Blues to the Premier League crown twice, and win four FA Cups, two EFL League Cups, a FA Community Shield, a UEFA Champions League title and a UEFA Europa League crown. He also played a crucial role in Nigeria’s 2013 AFCON win in addition to the three third place finishes the Super Eagles claimed.
