A year on, as India mourns the victims, the Army sent a strong message aimed at Pakistan, warning that some boundaries should never be crossed and reminding them what follows if they are.
On April 22, 2025, terrorists backed by Pakistan opened fire on a group of tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, killing 25 tourists and a local resident. In the aftermath, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting Lashkar and Jaish terror camps in Pakistan.
A year on, as India remembers and mourns the loss of lives, the Indian Army issued a strong message aimed at Pakistan, saying some boundaries should never be crossed and offering a stark reminder of what happens when they are.
A day ahead of the anniversary of the Pahalgam attack, the Indian Army tweeted: “When the boundaries of humanity are crossed, the response is decisive. Justice is served. India stands united.”
The post was accompanied by a graphic that read: “Some boundaries should never be crossed. India does not forget.”
Meanwhile, security has been heightened at tourist locations throughout Kashmir ahead of the first anniversary of the Pahalgam terror attack.
All security agencies have been instructed to remain vigilant against potential subversive activities, particularly around tourist areas, in light of the attack's anniversary. Preparatory meetings to ensure a comprehensive security plan have been conducted at the ground level, with senior officers reviewing these arrangements.
The attack, which devastated the Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, led to a significant decline in tourism in Jammu and Kashmir and the temporary closure of nearly 50 tourist spots, which have since been reopened following a security audit.
Currently, the meadows of Pahalgam are once again bustling with tourists, as the region, often referred to as 'Mini Switzerland,' moves beyond the shadow of last year's attack. New safety measures have been implemented at the Pahalgam resort, including the verification of service providers and vendors, such as ponywallahs, before they interact with tourists.
A QR code-based identification system has been introduced for all tourism service providers to enhance tourist safety in Pahalgam. This system allows for easy identification and verification of registered service providers, including pony-ride operators, hawkers, business establishments, and external vendors.
Officials have stated that each service provider has undergone police vetting, registration by the authorities, and has been assigned a unique QR code containing personal and professional details. Tourists can scan these codes with their mobile phones to access complete information about the service providers.
The QR codes include the service provider's name, parentage, detailed address, mobile number, Aadhaar number, registration number, operational route, and police verification status.
During a recent meeting, Kashmir Inspector General of Police VK Birdi instructed that security arrangements around vulnerable sites, including major tourist destinations, be reinforced to ensure a safe environment for visitors. Birdi chaired a security review meeting at PCR Kashmir to assess and finalise security measures for upcoming events in the Kashmir valley.
The meeting included senior officials from the police, Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force, Traffic Police, Railways, Security, and State Disaster Response Fund.
