With the Opposition parties alleging discrepancies in electoral rolls in many states and Congress set to launch its campaign against the same in Bihar Sunday, the EC Saturday said in a statement the right time to point out errors was during the revision process but “some parties” had not done so.

The EC said that “utmost transparency” had been the hallmark of preparation of electoral rolls and that some parties had not pointed out any errors to the EROs, DEOs and CEOs.

“Recently, some political parties and individuals are raising issues about errors in electoral rolls, including the electoral rolls prepared in the past. The appropriate time to raise any issue with the electoral rolls would have been during the claims and objections period of that phase, which is precisely the objective behind sharing the electoral rolls with all political parties and the candidates. Had these issues been raised at the right time, through the right channels, it would have enabled the concerned SDM/EROs to correct the mistakes, if genuine, before those elections,” the EC said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the EC also said it would hold a press conference on Sunday, the first one since CEC Gyanesh Kumar took office in February. EC sources said it would address questions about the SIR and allegations by LoP Rahul Gandhi.
