Success without inner peace is just noise

Somy Ali defines true happiness not by external validation but by inner peace and purpose. Ahead of the International Day of Happiness, she emphasizes that genuine joy stems from helping survivors of abuse and trafficking find freedom and safety.

Actor Somy Ali offers a deeply reflective take on happiness ahead of the International Day of Happiness, shaped by her journey and her work with No More Tears. “Real happiness is quiet. It is not the loud applause or flashing lights people associate with success.

For me, it is the moment a survivor we helped takes her first safe breath and realises she is finally free from fear.” She challenges the idea that success leads to happiness. “If you chase success hoping it will fill something missing inside you, you will always feel like you are running after something that keeps moving further away,” she says. Reflecting on her past, she adds, “Success without inner peace is just noise.

It may look beautiful, but it can feel empty.” For Somy, true fulfilment came through service. “When I began helping survivors, I discovered a kind of happiness that success alone never gave me. It was deeper because it came from connection and compassion.” She also emphasises small daily habits. “Start your day with silence. Write one thing you’re grateful for. Move your body. These simple acts can shift your entire perspective. Happiness comes from within. Pause, notice the small moments, and remember—you deserve joy, peace, and a life without fear.”
