New Delhi: Famous reformer and environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk has announced his support of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and indicated that he may be participating in a protest at New Delhi on June 6 organized by the party. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is being targeted by the protest over the past few days for controversies surrounding the national exams.
Wangchuk released a video statement on social media, stating that he had asked the members of the Cockroach Janta Party to show genuine concern of Indian youths to prove that the party truly works for them. He said that he had interacted with CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and read the material published about what the movement is about and felt their drive is from young people who had a desire for positive changes in the country.
Wangchuk commended the group for its patriotic sentiments and zeal for contributing to a good future. The issues under discussion transcend recent issues of rates like NEET, CUET and CBSE, he added. His concern lies with the underlying issues of education in India which have to be addressed, he says.
If the matter is not resolved by June 5, the activist twitted that he will join the protest in Delhi on 6th June. If billions of students and their future are in the balance for a big mistake, a sense of accountability is needed,” he said. India’s target of developing itself into a developed country by 2047 could be realized only by the apt implementation of its policies and hollow reform, said Wangchuk.
Metamorphosis of the Cockroach Janta Party is a satirical movement which started online but is now in the limelight of social media. The group has gained popularity among many young Indians frustrated by problems including examination and employment issues, and a lack of accountability from the authorities. The movement is also calling for the resignation of the Education Minister and has appealed to the people to gather peacefully at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on June 6.
The voice of the protest is likely to be Sonam Wangchuk. His participation lends credibility to the demands of the movement, as it is a group with wide credibility in Indian education circles who worked for decades to enhance learning in India. The eyes now are on June 6 when the protesters will be holding rallies in the national capital over education reforms.
