Samajwadi Party’s acting district president in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh, Gulshan Yadav, is now officially a wanted man. With 53 serious criminal cases stacked against him and a Rs 25,000 cash reward announced for information leading to his arrest, police efforts have intensified to bring down the once-influential local leader.
The announcement was made by Pratapgarh Superintendent of Police Dr Anil Kumar, who confirmed that cases ranging from attempted murder, robbery, and extortion to violations under the Arms Act and the Gangster Act are registered against Yadav across police stations in Pratapgarh and Prayagraj.
On the run for over a year, Yadav’s legal troubles deepened in 2024 when he was accused of selling mangoes from a seized orchard in a case registered at Manikpur police station. Despite repeated police raids, Yadav remains elusive, prompting the cash reward to encourage leads from the public.
Rs 7 Crore Empire Under Seizure
The district administration, acting under the Gangster Act, has moved aggressively to dismantle Yadav’s financial base. District Magistrate orders have triggered the confiscation of illegally acquired assets worth over Rs 7.15 crore. Among the assets already seized are houses and land parcels worth Rs 2.5 crore in Pratapgarh and Lucknow.
In a significant development, land worth Rs 1.10 crore registered in the name of his wife, Seema Yadav, located in Lucknow’s Sharda Nagar, has also been seized. Luxury vehicles, residential land, and even frozen bank accounts are now within the scope of the crackdown.
Notably, the administration has begun proceedings to seize the Kunda office of the Samajwadi Party itself, property linked to Yadav. The dramatic move began with police officials beating drums outside the premises, led by Kunda Kotwal Satyendra Singh, drawing sharp public attention.
Gulshan Yadav was once considered a close aide of powerful Kunda MLA Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya. However, their political paths diverged bitterly. In 2022, Yadav contested the assembly elections on a Samajwadi Party ticket against Raja Bhaiya in Kunda, an attempt that brought him into the limelight but ended in defeat.
SP Dr Anil Kumar said Yadav’s criminal history dates back to 1998, when the first FIR was lodged against him at Kunda police station. The bulk of his criminal record is concentrated in Pratapgarh, though one case is registered in Prayagraj’s Soraon police station.
