Trichy city cybercrime police have arrested a man from Rajasthan on charges of operating fake websites impersonating administrators of Srirangam Yatri Nivas, a pilgrim lodge managed by the Sri Ranganathaswamy temple, and cheating devotees
Trichy: Trichy city cybercrime police have arrested a man from Rajasthan on charges of operating fake websites impersonating administrators of Srirangam Yatri Nivas, a pilgrim lodge managed by the Sri Ranganathaswamy temple, and cheating devotees.The accused, B Jaffer, 26, a resident of Bilang village near Kaman in Bharatpur district, was arrested on Tuesday and brought to Trichy on Thursday. He was produced before a judicial magistrate and lodged at Central prison.Police said Jaffer created three fraudulent websites — theyatrinivas.in, yatrinivasguestthousesrirangam.xyz, and yatrinivasgueshouse.org — to dupe devotees.Earlier, police registered the case based on a complaint from Srirangam MLA and HR&CE minister S Ramesh. A special team investigating the case traced the accused to Rajasthan and arrested him. They also seized electronic devices used in the crime.Police commissioner N Kamini lauded the team for the arrest. Further investigation is underway to trace other accomplices.
